Coastal Orthopaedics announces the retirement of its senior partner Dr. Jerome Barton effective 9/30/2015. Coastal Orthopaedics will retain all patient records and is pleased to transfer Dr. Barton’s patients to the capable hands of his skilled and accomplished partners at the practice.
Dr. Barton graduated from Dartmouth College and NYU College of Medicine. He did his Orthopaedic training at The Hospital For Joint Diseases in New York City.
In 1963, Dr. Barton opened a private practice of Orthopaedic Surgery on East Avenue in Norwalk. Dr. Barton grew the practice into the present Coastal Orthopaedics with twelve surgeons, complete subspecialty coverage, fifty employees and four Physician Assistants. Dr. Barton was Chief of Orthopaedics at Norwalk Hospital and was Assistant Chairman of the Surgical Department for twenty years. He introduced both joint replacement and arthroscopic surgery to the community and was the first to do each of these operations at the hospital. He played the major role in shepherding the hospital into the modern era of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He served on the Norwalk Hospital Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1997. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and the Scanlon Award for Surgical Innovation by the Department of Surgery at Norwalk Hospital and the William Tracey Philanthropic Award by the Hospital.
Dr. Barton has been a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and a member of both the Connecticut State and County Medical Associations.
Dr. Barton was well known to patients in the Norwalk, Westport, Wilton and Weston areas. He worked with students at Weston High School and is a long-time resident of Weston & Westport, CT.
